Netflix to Help Set Movie-Watching World Record in Times Square

There’s nothing we like better than watching a good movie. We could watch our favourite flicks for hours on end, but even we’d need a tea break and the inevitable strategic dash to the loo when you think you’re not going to miss anything. So we’re a little in awe of Ashish Sharma who currently holds the world record for the longest amount of time spent watching films – wait for it, drum roll please, for he has spent no less than 120 hours and 23 minutes square-eyed in front of the box. He must have one sore bum. But the avid movie fan is set to do it all again as Netflix prepares to set a new world record, right in the middle of Times Square.

Between the 2nd and the 7th of October, eight keen movie watchers, (including the man himself), will be given the chance to break Ashish Sharma’s record for the longest amount of consecutive hours spent watching the world’s silver screen idols on film in one of New York’s most famous locations. Pushing aside the niggling feeling that these people probably need to get a job – or a life – it really would be one impressive feat. It’s one determined person that can stay awake for over 120 hours, that’s over three days and two nights by the way. If regular trips to the cinema are anything to go by their bladders will be bursting by twenty minutes in. Thankfully though, they’re allowed ten minute breaks in between the 56 movies they’ll be watching, and medical professionals will be on hand doubling up as judges to ensure that the participants are actually watching the films, and not just slack-jawed and dribbling with their eyes open.

Here comes the exciting bit though Boxwishers, as you, yes YOU, could be one of those lucky eight. If you think you’ve got what it takes (no taping your eyelids open or painting on fake eyes allowed), you can apply by visiting the official Facebook page and submitting a video of how you would mentally prepare for the challenge. You want an incentive? Well, with $10, 000 up for grabs, alongside lifetime membership to Netflix, a popcorn trophy for your mantelpiece and, of course, the prestigious record breaking title, there’s a lot to play for. So, Boxwishers, could you do it?
